Tynwald establish new committee
Defining poverty in the Isle of Man and making sure people aren't falling through the cracks is the aim of a new Tynwald select committee.
It was proposed by Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson, who got Tynwald approval yesterday evening for the three-person committee to look at the issue locally.
During the debate, there had been objection from two members of the Council of Ministers, Alf Cannan and Chris Thomas, who said there was already lots of work being done on this in government and by another committee.
But Mr Watterson says he applauds what's already being done, but feels more oversight is needed:
