The Island’s Post Office could be about to suffer a blow.
It’s emerged the Department of Social Care is considering changing how benefit payments, currently paid through the Post Office, are distributed.
The department is one of the Post Office retail network's largest customers with some £74 million in benefit payments currently paid through it.
Should that business be taken away, the impact on Isle of Man Post and its operations is likely be highly damaging.
Although other options are being explored, it’s unclear if department officials have made any decisions regarding either the scope or timing.
Isle of Man Post says it hopes the department will consult with them if it decides to implement such changes.
