Council confirms new date instead of cancelling show

Douglas Council says changing the date of its fireworks display was not down to 'bad organisation' on its part.

It will now take place in Douglas Bay at 7pm on the 26 November instead of on Bonfire Night (5 November).

The local authority says it's due to issues 'affecting the transportation' of the fireworks to the Island.

Manx Radio understands Mezeron ships the fireworks.

The company has been contacted for comment but it has declined to respond to a media request.

Chair of the Regeneration and Community Committee Natalie Byron-Teare says a number of other dates were considered rather than cancelling the show entirely.

Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to her:

Ramsey Commissioners also postponed the town's display due to the same issue.

The Steam Packet says its dangerous goods sailings have been going as scheduled.
