United States Government removes ‘de-minimis’ postal exemption

The Isle of Man Post Office says, from tomorrow, it will suspend services for sending goods to the USA. (23 August)

It follows a recent decision by the United States Government to remove the ‘de-minimis’ postal exemption, which previously allowed goods valued under $800 to enter without import duty.

From 29 August, tariffs will apply to all goods sent to the USA.

Items sent tomorrow or thereafter will be returned to sender.

Meanwhile, goods sent up to and including today (22 August) are expected to be delivered as normal.

The Post Office's partner, Royal Mail, is said to be working towards a solution to restore services.

However, it says it cannot be certain that this will be in place before the new rules take effect.

Letters and correspondence are unaffected and can continue to be sent as usual.

Isle of Man Post Office will provide any further updates HERE.
