Motion in Tynwald next week
Future University students from the Island could see a bump in their maintenance grant from 2017 onwards.
Education minister Graham Cregeen is presenting a motion to alter Education Regulations during the next sitting of Tynwald (25 April).
For 30-week courses on and off Island, maintenance grants for both undergraduates and postgraduates will rise from £4,680 to £5,200 pounds - that's up from £115 to £173 a week.
These increases will cost £100,000 per year but will be contained within the Department of Education and Children's existing budget.
The Department says it wants to increase support available through the grants.
