Part of attempts to alleviate overcrowding
The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed 'portable cells' are beginning to be used by prisoners categorised as 'low risk'.
It's part of efforts to alleviate overcrowding, with the number of inmates almost reaching capacity.
Twenty-four portable cells have now undergone the necessary risk assessments and security checks.
The Isle of Man Prison can accommodate 141 prisoners – in May, there were 134 people behind bars.
