Cannan says increasing workforce vital

Increasing the number of working people on the Island will boost the economy.

That's the belief of Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan and forms a key part of government policy.

A drive to bolster the workforce is seen as a way to support an ageing population.

But some of the language used to describe the growing older demographic picture - for example "a problem" has led to criticism.
