Paul Craine MLC warns 'flatlining' population is impacting economy

Declining births, young people leaving the Island and an ageing population have gone from being vulnerabilities to extremes.

That's the view of MLC and demographer Paul Craine, who was also a member of the Tynwald committee that looked at ways to rebalance the population.

Mr Craine warns the 'flatlining' of the population is also having an impact on the Island's economy.

He says there's been a significant change over the last decade:

Next month, those on the Isle of Man will be asked to take part in the interim Census.

The survey, being held on 26 April, aims to find out more about those on the Isle of Man.

The 2021 Census found the Island had a population of 84,069, while last year's Isle of Man in Numbers report showed a population of 84,523.
