Politicians to consider £16 million capital funding schemes

Three projects include investment in housing, health and infrastructure

Tynwald will consider approving funding for three projects totalling £16.3 million during its first sitting of 2025.

The proposed replacement respite facility for Radcliffe Villas includes plans for a new 12-bedroom building, each room featuring an en-suite, ceiling track hoists, fully equipped disabled bathrooms, and an office for staff.

A budget of £6 million would be allocated for the project, aiming to transform the current 'outdated' accommodation into 'modern, accessible, and high-quality care' for vulnerable adults.

Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian said: “The project is crucial for ensuring the continued delivery of effective respite services, supporting families and carers in the community.”

The Ballacubbon Housing Project is set to receive £5.3 million, enabling the construction of 20 two-bedroom properties.

This includes seven houses and four apartments for first-time buyers, along with additional social housing in the form of five bungalows and four apartments.

Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood highlighted its importance: “The project in Ballacubbon will mark a significant step towards meeting the needs of the local community.”

Additionally, £5 million is proposed for the Airfield Drainage Improvement Scheme, designed to “enhance the operational resilience and safety of the airfield.”

Planned refurbishments aim to improve drainage, reduce surface flooding, and upgrade Runway End Safety Areas to mitigate risks if aircraft leave paved surfaces.

Minister Haywood continued: “Isle of Man Airport is a strategic infrastructure asset used year-round by residents, businesses and visitors. Maintenance of this kind is essential to the facility’s continued safe operation while adhering to regulatory requirements.”
