A 52 year-old man rescued from Douglas harbour last night (Wednesday) is described as being in a serious but stable condition in Nobles Hospital today.
Police believe the man was drunk and possibly fell into the sea.
Douglas Coastguard rescue team, Douglas Lifeboat, the police and paramedics were all involved in the rescue.
Police constable Adam Hawkes is being praised for his actions.
He swam around 100 metres to the man, who was turning blue and was totally unresponsive, before pulling a life ring over his head and keeping his airway clear.
Police say without intervention, the man would have drowned.
A number of those involved in the rescue were treated for hypothermia.
