A stretch of the main Douglas to Castletown road was closed for eleven hours today, while investigators examined the scene of an accident in which a woman pedestrian lost her life.
The accident happened near the Hop Garden pub in Santon just before 6am, and the pedestrian died after being involved in a collision with a car.
The woman, described as a 38-year-old who lived locally, is expected to be formally identified on Thursday morning, and won't be publicly named by police until some time after that.
Media officer Inspector Will Campbell is appealing for witnesses (play attached audio file):
Anyone who was in the area of the Hop Garden between 5.30 and 6.15am today (Wednesday) is asked to ring Police Headquarters, on 631212.
Police would also like to hear from any road users whose normal route to work takes them through the Mount Murray Dip, during those times.
The stretch of road between the Cooil Road roundabout and the Mount Murray Back Road reopened to traffic at around 5pm.
