Police prosecutions come to a close

This week marks the beginning of the end for the Isle of Man Constabulary's prosecutions department.

From tomorrow, all police staff involved in summary prosecutions will move to the Attorney General's office.

Later in the summer, the Attorney General’s advocates will take over all prosecutions, ending a tradition of police appearing in court which goes back 100 years.

Deputy Chief Constable Gary Roberts says the move is an important step in separating the legal functions of investigation and prosecution, adding that advocacy is a job for advocates rather than his officers.
