Police are advising individuals using dating websites to practice caution.
It's after a number of reports to officers by women who've met with prospective partners who don't fit their online description.
Inspector Gavin Callow posted a warning on social media prompting bachelors and spinsters to make appropriate checks before inviting strangers into their homes, or a hotel room.
He says it's because police are only called out when dates turn sour.
