A 42 year-old man who had an imitation gun in a public place has been given a four month prison sentence, suspended for two years, by High Bailiff Michael Moyle.
Carl Clifford Graham Oakley, of Strang Close in Braddan, appeared for sentence after admitting three offences of possessing prohibited articles in a public place and possessing an imitation firearm in a public place.
Acting on information, police searched the defendant's car last November and found the imitation gun in a bag in the well of the car.
Officers also found a sword and two army-type knives locked in the boot of the vehicle.
The defendant's advocate said the items were antique, and Oakley was a dealer who collected World War II memorabilia.
He said the sword and the knives were in the boot because they were being taken for auction.
Mr Moyle said the case was very serious but unusual.
He accepted that Oakley was dealing in weapons and that they were in a locked car, but said offences warranted immediate custody.
He also imposed a two year supervision order and forfeit of the weapons.
