Winter weather increases problem
People are being asked to support infrastructure in locating potholes.
Minister Tim Baker says the "Report a Problem" page on the government website should be used to help the department make repairs.
Recent wet weather and then freezing conditions have led to an increase in damaged road surfaces.
Mr Baker says patching is better than nothing but won't provide a lasting solution:
