The proposals are currently on display at Malew Commissioners
Report from BBC Isle of Man
Proposals to progress a waste disposal facility at a former quarry site have been outlined in a display in the south of the Isle of Man.
The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) said it intended to submit formal planning applications for the projects, based at the old Turkeyland Quarry site near Ronaldsway Airport.
Proposals include creating storage and treatment areas for asphalt waste containing coal tar, which requires special handling, allowing the material to be treated and reused in road schemes.
Information about the proposed projects is on public display at Malew Commissioners' offices until Monday.
Other elements included in the proposals include repurposing three existing lined landfill cells currently used to store incinerator bottom ash, replacing welfare facilities and a weighbridge, and submitting a demolition order for the former block paint buildings.
The DoI has also issued a Request for Information via the government procurement portal to identify contractors to carry out the design and construction of the proposed facility.
Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood said that the display was an opportunity for residents to understand the scope of the projects and share their views.
"We recognise the importance of engaging with the local community and being clear that these proposals are subject to the planning process," she explained.
"The Request for Information will help us identify experienced contractors should the proposals proceed, but this does not mean planning approval is a foregone conclusion," she added.
