Vet practice wants to cut need for travel to UK

Plans to build the first equestrian clinic and rehabilitation centre have been put forward.

Medicor Vets is seeking approval from planners to move to Kennaa Equestrian Centre and establish what's described as 'world standard' facilities to care for horses.

The practice opened on the Island four years ago, initially employing three staff members, but has since expanded to 11, and says it's now in need of bigger premises, and is keen to expand its services to treat larger animals, including horses.

The business says this move would allow vets to help horses locally, without travel to the United Kingdom.

The application says having larger premises would allow the practice to have a safe environment to exercise animals, as well as providing a CT scanner and MRI facilities which would enable spinal and joint replacement surgeries on Island.

It would also include three surgical wards for small animals and a stable for stationary treatment of horses.
