Planning application for onshore wind farm still being developed

MU continuing to engage with stakeholders

Manx Utilities says work on an onshore windfarm project is continuing and more information will be shared when the proposals are ‘sufficiently developed’.

A planning application has not yet been submitted for Cair Vie, at Earystane, despite suggestions that one was imminent.

It is however being prepared and once submitted to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture the documentation will be publicly available.

Ecological and technical assessments have been carried out since 2024 to support the development of a ‘robust, evidence-based’ submission.

In a statement MU adds: “No project parts have been approved or procured and no construction or delivery commitments can be made without the necessary statutory approvals including planning consent and consideration by Tynwald.

"Manx Utilities will continue to engage with stakeholders, including local MHKs and statutory consultees, at the appropriate times as the project progresses. 

"Further engagement with local residents will take place and advance notice will be provided when the application is submitted including details on how to view the documentation and participate in the consultation process.

"Information will be shared at the appropriate stage, once proposals are sufficiently developed to support meaningful engagement and proper scrutiny by all stakeholders."

Later this month Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse will call for Tynwald to readdress the ‘energy balance’.
