A house in Strang has been badly damaged in a fire which killed the family pet.
Fire crews were called to the property in Ballanawin late yesterday afternoon, to find the kitchen well ablaze and the rest of the house heavily smoke-logged.
Officers using breathing apparatus and a thermal image camera searched the house for the animal.
They made several attempts to resuscitate the pet, but were unable to save it.
The kitchen was destroyed in the blaze and an investigation as to the cause is underway.
