'Personal and insulting' remark sparked street fight

Fifty-year-old admits 'ridiculous' behaviour

A court’s heard a personal and insulting remark about a Douglas woman sparked a street fight outside a shop at 10am.

Fifty-year-old Denise Elizabeth Watterson of Bucks Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

She pleaded guilty to a single charge of using provoking behaviour on Dalton Street in Douglas.

Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the court Watterson had heard the woman, who was sitting on a wall, make the remark on 7 October.

Initially Watterson walked away but then she responded by going back to the woman and pushing her head.

That led to the pair getting involved in a fight, which spilled into a road as they pulled each other’s hair.

Watterson walked away when a shopkeeper split the two up, and later told police her behaviour had been ridiculous.

Magistrates fined her £200 and ordered her to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
