People with 'lived experience' of autism urged to help shape services

Lay members wanted for steering group

People who can bring their ‘lived experience’ about autism are being urged to join a government group.

The Autism Spectrum Condition Strategy Steering Group is looking for lay members to serve for two years.

Selected individuals would ensure that the experiences and views of autistic people, families and carers are reflected in the development of support and services.

The steering group oversees the implementation of the Isle of Man’s ASC Strategy which brings together government, the public and voluntary sectors and community.

Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian said: "Lay members bring valuable perspectives to the steering group and help ensure the voices and experiences of autistic people are reflected in our work.

"I encourage any autistic adults who wish to become involved in improving outcomes for autistic individuals, their families, or carers, to consider applying for this rewarding and important position."

Three members are being sought. 

To be considered for the position a person must have an ASC diagnosis, be aged 18 or over and live on the Isle of Man. 

The closing date for applications is 28 August; the two-year term starts in September.
