Outgoing Police Federation chair praises 'rewarding' nature of job
The outgoing chairman of the Isle of Man Police Federation is encouraging others to consider a career in policing despite the challenges facing the profession.
Detective Constable Richard Hewitt retires today (16 May) after 35 years working in public service.
The former soldier says he’s ‘immensely proud’ to have served the Manx community after transferring from Nottinghamshire Police:
PC Hewitt will be replaced in the Isle of Man Police Federation by new chair Barry Hand.
The Island's former Chief Constable, Gary Roberts, praised Mr Hewitt on Twitter:
When I was a Chief Constable one of my key principles was having a strong, positive and effective relationship with the Police Federation. Someone who helped me with that is Richard Hewitt, Federation board secretary.
