Poor weather led to its original postponement

Peel's annual Viking Longboat races are getting underway today (Sunday 30 August).

The rescheduled event had been due to take place last month, but had to be rearranged because of poor weather.

Fifty eight teams of 10 are due to compete a time-trial around Peel bay.

The event's been running since 1963.

There'll be a number of road closures around the city while the races are on.

Parts of the town's promenade and East Quay will be closed to traffic from 10.30am.

Other areas affected are Victoria Road, Castle Street and Shore Road, with parking restrictions also in place on Crown Street.

Bus Vannin says its services won't be able to serve the House of Manannan and Peel Promenade for the entire day as a result of the closures.
