Peel man fined and has untaxed car crushed

45 year old denies knowing car wasn't taxed

A Peel man’s been fined after his car was seized by police for having no road tax.

Forty-five-year-old Gordon Thomas Lewis of Douglas Street pleaded guilty to having no road licence through a coroner’s admission.

The hearing, before magistrates at Douglas courthouse, was told his red Nissan Micra was discovered by officers at around 7.30am on 14 May.

Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the hearing the car was parked on a pavement on Glen Darragh Road in Glen Vine.

Police had the car towed away after noticing its tax expired in December last year.

Lewis told the court the car wasn’t his, and he wouldn’t have driven it if he’d known it wasn’t taxed.

The car was later crushed.

Lewis was fined £150 and ordered to pay £50 towards prosecution costs.
