Volunteers respond to emergency distress signal
The volunteer crew aboard the lifeboat were joined by a coastguard helicopter from Prestwick to search the area of water.
After spotting something in the water and marking it with a smoke device, the crew investigated what turned out to be a 'large, battered rubble bag'.
Coxswain Jon Corlett says: ‘Our crew members regularly train with other agencies to ensure we can work together safely and effectively in an emergency. Although this seemed to be a false alarm, we were satisfied that our operations with HM Coastguard helicopter crew went as smoothly as possible.’
Peel RNLI says it has been an especially busy week for the charity’s volunteers, with two other callouts; once to assist with the rescue of a disabled motorboat and another time to assist in the search for a missing person.
