It will also be lodging an appeal to the 92 house development by Dandara
Peel Commissioners’ application to develop the Marine Parade site in principle has been approved at appeal.
Plans could include a new café, crown green bowling clubhouse and new public toilets.
The facilities would be built on the current tennis courts which the local authority said were ‘underused’ and could be better located elsewhere.
The multi-sport area – currently home to a basketball court and a former skate and BMX park – is also intended to be relocated.
Commissioner Alan Jones, Lead Member of the Property and Asset Management Committee, says he’s pleased the application has been approved:
Also on the agenda was a discussion about whether an application will be made to become a biosphere partner.
Mr Jones said the local authority already follows the guidelines and principles of the agreement and there would be no cost to the board.
Commissioner Madeline Kelly objected, based on the grounds that wildflowers weren’t being planted in the town.
It was a split vote three to three, with Chair Christine Moughtin having the casting vote in favour.
An appeal will be lodged by the commissioners against the Dandara development for 92 houses on land adjacent to Castle View nursing home and the golf course.
The board raised concerns about the lack of pedestrian access to the schools and services including the doctors.
They also raised issues about the lack of accessible public open space.
It said these things should’ve been resolved before the planning committee met, and agreed unanimously to lodge the appeal.
Peel Commissioners will next meet on Thursday 17 October.
