A pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident in Ballaquayle Road, Douglas just before 6pm today.
Police say a red Ford Fiesta, driven by a man from Willaston, was also involved.
The injured pedestrian was taken to Noble's Hospital by ambulance, and a section of road was closed for three hours while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
Police are appealing for witnesses to get in touch, and are urging anybody who saw what happened not to assume that other people will come forward.
They say any information relating to the red Fiesta, or pedestrians in the area at the time, will be gratefully received.
Witnesses are asked to ring Police Headquarters on 631212.
