Pedestrian safety could be improved around busy Douglas junction

Pedestrian safety around a busy junction in Douglas could be improved if plans get the go-ahead.

The Department of Infrastructure has asked for permission to install a new zebra crossing on Victoria Road.

It also wants to add 1.2-metre-wide uncontrolled pedestrian crossings on the side roads – Marathon Drive and Victoria Crescent – to further enhance safety.

At present the existing layout encourages fast turning speeds from motorists with pedestrians exposed to traffic for an extended period of time whilst crossing the road.

The DoI says its planning application will also address concerns raised by disabled users as there are currently no facilities for mobility or visually impaired people to cross safely.
