A member of the House of Keys is suggesting what he calls "very hefty pay rises", awarded to senior civil servants in the past two years, should be used to provide extra cash for government employees with smaller salaries.
Rushen member Quintin Gill says, in the present economic climate, he would be happy to accept a pay freeze, but he thinks that would be unaccepable for staff at the lower end of the civil service.
It's been suggested there will be no 'cost of living' award for government employees and politicians this year, although nothing has been decided:
