Minister Ashford says supply issue is worldwide
Patients will be safe if a Serious Shortage Protocol comes in because of a shortage of some medicines.
That's the assurance being given by Health Minister David Ashford.
There is a worldwide supply issue for certain drugs, for example some anti-depressants and HRT treatments.
Under the protocol, a pharmacist will be able to supply a prescribed item in a different format than that on the prescription.
Mr Ashford says chemists do liaise with doctors and are fully qualified:
The Serious Shortage Protocol will be put before Tynwald this month and, if approved, will be put in place from 1 December.
