Janet's Corner properties show what can be achieved

Fifty-eight per cent less energy use than the average household - the findings of a study into two properties constructed in Castletown using a new method.

The results have been generated from the first 12 months of occupancy for the three-bedroom eco-homes built at Janet's Corner.

Average UK annual energy consumption stands at around 18,000 kWh - Thie Grian's used around half that amount in the same period.

The Passivhaus standard first hit the German market in the 1990s.

It lowers energy costs by using high levels of thermal insulation, whole-house ventilation, heat recovery, and triple-glazed windows.

The Department of Infrastructure's Housing Division brought it here to the Island.
