Eyewitnesses claim incident worse than reported

A holidaymaker who was aboard an electric tram as it suffered brake failure claims rail bosses are downplaying the extent of the incident.

Isle of Man Transport confirmed on Friday that a Snaefell Mountain Railway carriage had lost power whilst descending from the summit, prompting the emergency brakes to be activated.

Bosses said the tram travelled approximately 200 metres before coming to rest, adding such incidents are 'not out of the ordinary'.

But Paul Kelly, who had been up the mountain that day, says the distance and speed the carriage went is being understated.

He told Manx Radio it's 'a miracle' no one was injured, and passengers came out of their seats as the tram 'hurtled' past the Bungalow:
