Hearing gets underway after two-month delay

An independent public inquiry into the Island’s parole system should finally get underway tomorrow – after a two-month delay.

The independent inquiry led by former advocate Geoff Karran will first look into parole practices and procedures before turning its attention to the case of Donovan Kitching.

He was jailed after admitting causing visitor Gwen Valentine’s death by dangerous driving in 2014, three weeks after he was released from Jurby prison on parole.

This week’s hearings are due to get underway at 10am on Monday in the lecture theatre at 88 Woodbourne Road in Douglas.

The inquiry was due to get underway in October – but last-minute objections from Parole Committee chairman John Kermode forced an adjournment.
