Parents urged to look out for scarlet fever symptoms

Head of Health Protection highlights signs of illness

Parents are being urged to be on the look out for symptoms of scarlet fever caused by Strep A.

Public Health Isle of Man has sent a letter to parents through schools highlighting the signs of the illness.

The letter is calling on parents to keep children displaying symptoms of scarlet fever at home and contact their GP.

Symptoms to be aware of include sore throat, headache, fever, nausea and vomiting.

The illness can also lead to a fine red rash and some children may have a flushed face.

The guidance comes from the Head of Health Protection, Dr Clare Walker.

She urges those with the virus to take antibiotics as prescribed and stay away from work or school for at least 24 hours.
