Work by renowned maritime artist Joseph Heard
A painting of an early view of Douglas Bay has fetched over £30,000 at auction in London.
The work by renowned maritime artist Joseph Heard was painted in the 1840s and carried a pre-sale estimate of between fifteen and twenty thousand pounds.
The picture was part of the collection of former ENT surgeon Dr Sam Davidson of Liverpool, who - after retirement - became a maritime historian.
Alistair Laird, head of maritime pictures at Bonhams says it was a unique painting.
