The Ben-my-Chree left Heysham 45 minutes late this morning (Tuesday), following delays to yesterday evening's sailings.
They happened as the vessel was checked over after being pushed against the dock at the Lancashire port.
The Steam Packet said a freak gust of wind resulted in a 'heavier landing' than usual.
Passengers at Heysham said there was some damage to the bow of the ship.
The Ben-my-Chree was about three hours late in Douglas last night, but was back in Douglas by 6.30am today.
