
The Deputy Governor of Victoria Road Prison (pictured) admits overcrowding is causing problems, but says the situation is being dealt with as well as possible.
Colin Ring says eight adults are currently being housed in the young offenders' wing of the facility, but they are on a separate landing and aren't mixing with the 17-21 year olds.
The Celtic League has condemned the situation, saying it breaches European regulations on the treatment of young prisoners, and wants it to be sorted out at a political level.
Mr Ring says the measure is a short-term one, and he doesn't foresee anything similar happening once inmates have been moved to the new prison at Jurby:
