Outgoing Sefton Group chairman signals bright future for company

Government support for the Sefton Group has helped secure an optimistic future for the company - and the 340 people who work for it.

That verdict from outgoing chairman Sir Miles Walker, who stood down at the group's AGM yesterday (25 June) after announcing a dramatic turnaround in the company's fortunes.

An 'exceptional' profit of £10.3 million has been declared for the last financial year, mainly due to cash injections to wipe out debt as the company restructured.

Trading showed an underlying profitability of around £236,000.

Sir Miles says now the deficit's been reversed the company is looking at redeveloping facilities at the Palace Hotel.

He says retaining the option to buy-back the Middlemarch site has been pivotal to their future plans:
