Peter Kelly to be recognised for 'outstanding contribution to Manx life'

Architectural historian Peter Kelly MBE CP RBV is to be awarded a Tynwald Honour.

The medal is given to recipients who have made an outstanding contribution to Manx life over a significant period of time.

Chair of the Tynwald Management Committee and Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson described Mr Kelly is 'one of the Isle of Man's foremost champions of Manx heritage, architectural conservation and voluntary service'.

Mr Watterson explained why Mr Kelly had been nominated:

Previous recipients of the Tynwald Honour include Manx Gaelic Teacher and Broadcaster Dr Brian Stowell, D-Day Veteran Hector Duff, and the founder of Isle of Man Hospice, Nadine Crowther.

It's hoped the medal will be bestowed upon Mr Kelly during this year's Tynwald Day ceremony.

Mr Watterson pointed out to members that Mr Kelly couldn't be in the Tynwald gallery to hear the speeches made about him today (19 May) because "he is on the campaign trail trying to save a building in Castletown".

Members voted unanimously to approve Mr Kelly's nomination.
