Follows decision by former colleague to start legal proceedings

Onchan MHK Rob Callister says he's ‘always had confidence in the integrity of those responsible for administering the election process’.

It’s after his former colleague Julie Edge lodged a legal bid seeking to overturn the General Election result in the constituency.

The MHK of 10 years lost her seat on 24 September.

She's now alleging that significant procedural irregularities occurred during the count and postal vote processes which breached electoral law.

At Douglas Courthouse today (29 October) legal proceedings will begin in front of First Deemster Andrew Corlett.

The respondent in the case is Jeremy Callin - the advocate who served as deputy returning officer for Onchan and the Attorney General.

In a post on Facebook Mr Callister, who came second in September’s vote, said he was kept informed of issues that arose during election day and the count.

He adds that he has ‘every confidence in the judicial process’ to consider Ms Edge’s concerns properly.
