The chairman of Onchan Commissioners says he’s dismayed by a public sector rent rise that’s twice the rate of inflation.
Yesterday, the Department of Social Care said it would impose a five per cent rise from April next year.
Rob Callister says that’ll impact on “the squeezed middle” – people on low or fixed incomes who aren’t claiming benefits.
He told Manx Radio the increase could have been worse, but it could also have been a lot better for tenants:
