The Isle of Man Prison Service has appointed a resettlement officer at the prison in Jurby.
Forty-nine-year-old Paul Wade will work with other agencies to make sure prisoners don't return to crime after they have completed their sentences.
Among other things, he will make sure they have somewhere to live when they are released.
Outside work Mr Wade is a keen genealogist and assists the Isle of Man Family History Society and the Manx Museum in transcribing old documents.
He joined the Prison Service in 1997.
