October puts stop to late summer dry spell

After one of the driest Septembers on record, October reversed the trend to become the second wettest.

Latest figures show there was more than double the average rainfall at 210 mm - only October 2002 was wetter. 

The mean temperature at 12.5 degrees was just above the October long-term mean.

The lowest temperature last month was 3.3 degrees and we had our first grass frost of the season.

Despite the Island being hit by the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo with gusts of 60 miles per hour, the mean wind speed at 17.5 mph was only slightly higher than the average for October.

There were more than 107 hours of bright sunshine during the month - more than normal - and four days with thunderstorms.
