Number of people out of work rose in December

Island's unemployment rates stands at 0.8%

The number of people out of work on the Isle of Man rose by 24 in December when compared with the November total.

The increase takes the jobless total to 345 which is 60 higher that the corresponding month in 2023 and represents an unemployment rate of 0.8 percent.

Despite a rise in the total of people registered as unemployed in December there was a corresponding increase in the level of job vacancies at Job Centre, which stood at 551 - up 63 on the November figure.

Of these 71 percent - or 392 - are described as full-time positions with 29 percent - or 159 - categorised as part-time. 

The miscellaneous services category had the highest number of unemployed persons with 50, followed by catering and entertainment with 31 and retail distribution with 30.

The recent concerns of the construction sector were reflected in 20 skilled and 19 unskilled workers looking for jobs.
