
Plans for a nuclear dump on the Island’s doorstep have been thrown out by Cumbria County Council.
A £12 billion underground facility was being looked at to store the UK’s nuclear waste – with one possible site being the Solway Firth.
Today, however, the County Council said Cumbria’s geology would make it impossible to guarantee its safety for the required million years.
