Move could save taxpayer £97,000 annually
An MHK says he’s not convinced MLCs should be members of government departments in the long-term – despite opposing moves to remove them from positions this week.
Newly elected North Douglas member David Ashford called for the issue to be put on hold until next spring's debate on the Lord Lisvane inquiry, which reviewed the Island's parliamentary system.
Preventing members of the upper house from becoming departmental members would potentially save in the region of £97,000 a year.
But Mr Ashford insists now is not the right time:
Sailings cancelled due to predicted gales
Have your say on the future of the Island's plantations
Warning for 'disorderly' parents attending schools
Yellow weather warning for gale force winds
