Noble's Hospital is under 'significant pressure', after a viral outbreak closed wards yesterday.

It's claimed a severe shortage of staff, and beds for surgical and emergency admissions, is putting patients in jeopardy.

Anyone booked in at Noble's for non-essential procedures in the coming days have been warned to expect cancellations.

Ward 8 has been sealed to new admissions after a confirmed case of Norovirus - while Ward 5 has been closed as a precaution.

Although a blanket ban on visits is not in place, residents are being asked to avoid the hospital unless absolutely necessary - and not to visit A&E if they're suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea.

Lead Nurse for Infection Prevention Margaret Knight says it's 'peak season' for viral outbreaks - and reminds everyone that the period of contagion can last up to 72 hours after symptoms subside.

She also underlines the importance of washing your hands with hot, soapy water - and not hand sanitiser - to minimise the risk of infection.
