MHK responds to Rushen Primary school situation

Deputy headteacher has also been moved to do 'other duties' in DESC

A Rushen MHK has told Manx Radio there are no issues around safeguarding at a school in her constituency.

Parents at Rushen Primary School were told yesterday (1 July) that the headteacher and deputy headteacher were being seconded until the end of term.

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture provided no reason for their removal from their posts – instead confirming they’d be doing ‘other duties’ within the department instead.

Michelle Haywood says she was informed of the situation by the education minister yesterday and was shown the letter before it was sent out.

She says everything will become apparent in the ‘fullness of time’:

Simon Murphy – the headteacher of Scoill Phurt Le Moirrey – has been brought in to oversee leadership at Rushen, as well as his own school, on a temporary basis.
