Despite the immediacy of social media such as Facebook and web forums, police will continue to follow procedures when it comes to naming people who have died.
That's according to Detective Inspector Terry Stephen from the Manx force, who says the feelings of the familes of those who have passed away are always the first consideration.
His comments come after the name of a motorcyclist who died in an accident near the Creg-ny-Baa pub on Sunday afternoon was released by police over 48 hours after the crash, and a long time after it began doing the rounds on the internet.
DI Stephen says information, accurate or otherwise, spreads much more quickly these days, but police must respect the wishes of grieving relatives:
