No plans for weight management injections on the NHS on Island

The DHSC confirms it's focus is on promoting physical activity instead

The Island’s health department says it has no current intentions to make weight management injections available locally on the NHS.

It comes after authorities in England announced such medications would be available on prescription there.

But the emphasis here will be on using physical activity to promote health.

The NHS in England currently prescribes weight loss medications to patients living with obesity who meet specific criteria.

The Department of Health and Social Care on the Island says there are no plans within the current financial year to utilise Mounjaro injections for weight management

It says that any potential change to this approach would need to be considered within the context of clinical governance, evidence of an injection's effectiveness, the capacity for injections to be delivered locally and resources available.

Obesity, it adds, remains one of the Island's most significant health challenges.

The department says Manx Sport and Recreation is promoting opportunities for physical activity, particularly among groups at greatest risks of poor health outcomes.
